Everything should have a place. I mean everything should have a place. Here's how I've kept my room organized and clean since college.
I don't mean to put people's business out there, but I know plenty of disorganized and messy people. I can't blame them though. It takes time, effort, and dedication to keeping your room clean. Between work or school, homework, studying, taking care of family or pets, and prepping meals, keeping a clean room can usually fall to the bottom of the priorities list. Here's some of the ways I've managed to keep my room in order.
Organize your belongings by category.
Do you have a lot of jewelry? Buy a jewelry holder. Do you have a lot of scarves? Try a scarf hanger/organizer and store it in your closet. What about makeup? Go to your nearest TJ Maxx, Marshalls, or ULTA and buy a makeup organizer. It's easy to clean, you're able to see all of your products, and the organizer is clear, so it'll match any decor you have.
Organize the files on your USB and computer.
If you're sick and tired of trying to find a specific file, it might be time to organize your computer. Since high school, I've kept all of my assignments in their respective folders by class name and by grade as well. I used the same method for college, which helped tremendously. If you haven't done this already, it will take some time to get your files in order, but it's worth it when you need that one document that you just can't seem to find anywhere on your computer.
Get a "gotta go" basket.
I keep a wire basket on the edge of my dresser that has all of my essentials I need for when I leave the house. In my basket, I keep my keys (with a cute fox charm on it, my medicine box, earphones, chap-stick, lens wipes, wallet, hand sanitizer, hand lotion, gum, charger, and bus card. After I return from work or my errands, I immediately everything back in my basket so I don't lose anything.
Storage is your friend.
My room isn't big enough for large containers and baskets, so all of my storage is pretty small. I bought 3 storage units for a dollar at the dollar store and use them for various things. One is for my wallets/purses I wear a lot, one is for the wallets/purses I don't wear as much, and the other is for random belongings that just need to be out of the way.
I also recommend getting a 3 unit pullout drawer (that you can pretty much find at any Walmart, Target, etc.). In mine, I keep my hair products, pads/cotton pads/new razors, and my extra coffee mugs.
Nightstands aren't just for books and your lamp.
I use my nightstand to hold my important documents folder, post it notes, and pen holders. Because it's right next to my bed, I can reach over anytime I have an idea that I want to write down.
The top drawer of my nightstand is for my electronics, and the bottom is for important documents and post its.
These are just a couple of ways that I've used in order to keep my room organized and tidy every day. I didn't realize how much of a time saver being organized is until I left for college. When you know where everything is, it's less likely you'll lose something.
