My New Year's Resolution List (And Inspo For Yours!)

Wikipedia defines a New Year's resolution as follows: "a tradition...in which a person resolves to change an undesired trait or behavior, to accomplish a personal goal or otherwise improve their life." Resolutions are fairly simple to come up with, but are hard to follow through. I'm going to share my list of New Year's resolutions, tips on how to follow through on your resolutions, and give you some inspiration and ideas to come up with your own list, too!

The Deal about Resolutions (and why you shouldn't feel bad if you don't follow through)

I can't tell you how many posts on social media about people refusing to set goals or resolutions for 2018 because they "know" they won't follow through with them. While following through on a resolution can be fulfilling, not following through doesn't make you a failure. Use that as motivation to set a goal that will be easier for you to accomplish.

For example, I made a goal (last year) to go to the gym 3 times a week. That wasn't the right kind of goal for me because a) I never regularly went to the gym in the first place, and b) my goal wasn't specific enough. Setting specific goals helps you accomplish your goals more easily. If I said, "I want to go to the gym at least once per week so I can increase my upper body strength," then I know that a) I only "need" to go to the gym once a week, and b) I know why I want to go to the gym in the first place and what the outcome of that will be.

My 2018 Resolutions

1. Publish a blog post at least twice per month in order to gain a larger following, practice my writing skills, and engage with my subscribers more.

2. Stick with my editorial calendar in order to be able to publish a blog post twice per month. Also, update that editorial calendar regularly (at least once per week).

3. Join Planet Fitness.

4. Go to the gym at least 4 or 5 times per month to work on flattening my stomach, increasing my arm strength, build stronger leg muscles, and work on my endurance (because I can't get up the stairs to my job without feeling extremely out of breath and out of strength).

5. What do I want my YouTube channel to be about?

6. Create a schedule for my YouTube channel so I can: grow my subscriber count, post videos more regularly, and be less stressed about now posting videos regularly.

7. Create a budget that works for me and try to stick to it (because I can't stick to a budget to save my life, but I'll have to when I move out) even though it's a lot of hard work.

8. Pay more than my student loan amount while I am still living at home with no other large bills in order to pay off interest quicker.

I tried to make my resolutions as specific and attainable as possible. Writing down why you want to achieve your resolutions and the outcomes of those resolutions will make it that much easier to achieve. Also, you don't have to make a long list of goals you want to accomplish. Even if you write down one, finish it, and call it a day, you made progress regardless. And, you have the option to add more items to your list.
